What is it about GR's, mine can find mud and water in a drought! there is someting endearing though about that damp dog smell on the drive home. I am enjoying a few days in the Trossacks with my GR at the moment - plenty of mud and water here. But at least the boiler works so plenty of hot baths too. I do hope that things look up for you on the plumbing front soon.
